Canada Lynx
The Canada, or Canadian, lynx is a monotypic wildcat – alone as a species.
Its range extends from Alaska, through Canada, and into the northern borders of the United States. A carnivore, it feeds mostly on snowshoe hare. It is well-adapted to deep snow and heavy underbrush in dense boreal forests, with its large snowshoe-like paws and thick fur coat.
Standing 19-22 inches tall at the shoulder, and weighing between 11-37 pounds, the lynx is a good swimmer and adept climber. While regularly trapped in Alaska and much of Canada for the international fur trade, it is protected in the southern swath of its range due to habitat loss.
Looking like an overgrown kitten, the Canada lynx is an excellent hunter and avoids contact with humans.

Understanding the lives of wild animals, their habitats, food preferences, mating rituals, and day-to-day busyness helps me to embrace the incredible diversity of creation, and the ineffable imagination of God.
In the liminal space between human and spirit the wild things give us courage to be who God created us to be, to let go of society’s expectations, and step into the full love of God.

Infinite Creator God, thank you for all the living things you have made. You delight in giving humanity gift upon gift from your imagination and love. Help us to learn wise ways to protect and celebrate your creatures, human, tamed, and wild; that we may share peacefully and completely in your kindness and agape love with all creation. May we be a blessing to all that you have created as we glorify you. Amen.
